Strengthening specialist training through quality assessment and collaboration.
As part of the Expanded Obstetrics and Gynecology Residency Training Program (EORTP), RSOG and the University of Rwanda brought together OBGYN faculty members, residency program leaders, and clinical specialists for a Question Bank Development Workshop focused on strengthening assessment and learning for PGY3 and PGY4 residents.
The workshop provided a platform for collaboration, knowledge exchange, and the development of a standardized repository of examination questions aligned with competency-based training and residency curriculum objectives.
We are pleased to recognize the participants whose dedication and expertise contributed to this important milestone in advancing the quality and standardization of OBGYN residency training in Rwanda. Together, we continue to strengthen specialist education and support the development of a highly skilled healthcare workforce.

The donated equipment will support healthcare providers in delivering quality maternal and newborn healthcare services, strengthening facility capacity and improving access to essential care for women, newborns, and families within the project's catchment area.

Strengthening Partnerships to Advance Women's Health in Rwanda
RSOG recently visited CHUB (Centre Hospitalier Universitaire de Butare) to explore opportunities for collaboration aimed at strengthening specialist training, mentorship, service delivery, and access to advanced women's healthcare services.
As the primary teaching and referral hospital outside Kigali, CHUB plays a critical role in delivering healthcare services to a large catchment population while training the next generation of healthcare professionals. During the visit, discussions focused on strengthening institutional capacity through sustainable approaches that build not only individual skills, but also long-term hospital systems and services.
Key areas of collaboration included Minimally Invasive Surgery (MIS) training, Maternal-Fetal Medicine (MFM), mentorship, equipment support, research, and the continued development of specialist training pathways. Participants also explored strategies to strengthen workforce retention, support future OBGYN specialists, and expand access to specialized, evidence-based care across Rwanda.
We were particularly impressed by CHUB's commitment to innovation and sustainability through its home-grown production of patient gauze, a practical solution that demonstrates the hospital's creativity and determination in addressing operational challenges while ensuring continuity of patient care.
The visit reaffirmed a shared vision between CHUB and RSOG: investing in institutions, empowering healthcare professionals, and building sustainable systems that improve the health and well-being of women and girls.
As preparations begin for a formal collaboration framework, both institutions look forward to working together to strengthen training, expand access to specialized services, and advance excellence in women's healthcare.

The workshop brought together a diverse group of stakeholders, including representatives from civil society organizations, academia, healthcare institutions, and law enforcement agencies, to review and contribute to the development of a national research agenda.
The initiative aims to guide future research, resource mobilization, policy development, programming, and evidence-based decision-making in Rwanda's health sector.
RSOG is proud to contribute to these important discussions and to support efforts that strengthen research, generate evidence, and inform interventions that improve health outcomes for women and girls.

RSOG had the privilege of joining a meeting with the Ambassador of the People's Republic of China to Rwanda to reflect on the longstanding contribution of the China Medical Team to Rwanda's healthcare system.
Under the theme "Decades of Life Protection, Building a Healthy Future Together," the discussion highlighted the impact of decades of collaboration, service, and knowledge exchange in strengthening healthcare delivery and improving health outcomes in Rwanda.
We were particularly delighted to see the contributions of the China Medical Team featured during the 12th RSOG Annual Scientific Conference, where Chinese specialists shared their expertise and participated in scientific discussions aimed at advancing women's health and strengthening healthcare systems.

Strengthening Maternal and Newborn Health Across Gasabo District
As part of the ongoing SRHR Project, implemented by RSOG in collaboration with SOGC, with support from Global Affairs Canada and led by L'AMIE, essential maternal and newborn health equipment was handed over to Kayanga Health Center, Gikomero Health Center, Bumbogo Health Center, and Gatsata Health Center in Gasabo District.
The donated equipment will support healthcare providers in delivering quality maternal and newborn healthcare services, strengthening facility capacity and improving access to essential care for women, newborns, and families within the project's catchment area.
Through continued investments in healthcare infrastructure, equipment, training, and mentorship, we are working together to strengthen health systems and improve maternal and reproductive health outcomes across Rwanda.
We extend our sincere appreciation to our partners and the dedicated healthcare teams who continue to advance quality care for women and newborns.

RSOG Donates Advanced Ultrasound Machine to CHUK
RSOG officially handed over a high-performance ultrasound machine to CHUK — one of the most advanced in East Africa.
This is part of RSOG's broader effort to strengthen maternal care via similar support to hospitals and staff training across Rwanda. The ultrasound machine will significantly improve maternal diagnostics capacity at CHUK and serve thousands of patients annually.
New Maternal Health Initiative Launch

50+ healthcare providers successfully completed an advanced ultrasound training program in partnership with ISUOG.
The intensive 5-day training program equipped healthcare providers with advanced ultrasound techniques for maternal and fetal diagnostics. Participants came from all provinces of Rwanda, ensuring nationwide impact of this critical skills development initiative.
International Partnership Expansion
RSOG signs a new collaboration agreement with leading medical institutions across East Africa.

Official Launch of OB/GYN Residency Program
Expanding the Obstetrics and Gynaecology Residency Training across ten Level II Teaching Hospitals in Rwanda.
On 22 May at Rwamagana Level II Teaching Hospital. The new project "Expanding Obstetrics and Gynecology Residency Training Program in Ten Level II Teaching Hospitals in Rwanda" aims to increase the number of qualified OBGYNs by implementing competency-based training programs as part of the University of Rwanda Residency Program.
SOGC Training Program
Training organized by RSOG in collaboration with SOGC Canada to strengthen OBGYN capacity across Rwanda.
Led by the Aide internationale à l'enfance (AMIE) project, this initiative aims to increase awareness of health rights and access to health services for the most vulnerable women, adolescents and children. The program builds long-term clinical capacity through hands-on training and mentorship.
