Dr. Victor Mivumbi Ndicunguye, MD, MMed, MSc, FCOG (ECSA), GWHF (JHU), is the President of the Rwanda Society of Obstetricians and Gynecologists. With over 15 years of experience and an expert in public health service delivery, he has a significant background in mentoring and providing integrated RMNCH/GHS/Malaria services.
Currently, Dr. Mivumbi serves as the Deputy Chief of Party and Technical Director for the USAID/Tubeho Project at Jhpiego Rwanda, where he offers technical oversight and strategic direction to ensure effective implementation of RMNCH/GHS, and malaria programs. In this role, he supports the Ministry of Health (MoH) by developing strategic documents, updating training materials, guidelines, and protocols for RMNCH in Rwanda, and guiding sub-grantees, including professional associations such as RSOG, RPA, and RAM, to align with both project and MoH goals.
Additionally, Dr. Mivumbi initiated and led the obstetrician's gynecologist residency program in level II teaching hospital and the expansion of sexual and reproductive health in the supported districts in collaboration with MoH and university of Rwanda.
Previous Experience
Previously, as the Maternal and Child Health Specialist for the Rwanda Ministry of Health, MCH department, Dr. Mivumbi coordinated the National Maternal Child and Neonatal Death Surveillance and Response (MPDSR) system, leading the development and implementation of MPDSR guidelines in Rwanda. His experience also includes serving as a Consultant OB/GYN at Kigali Teaching Hospital and King Faisal Hospital, where he was involved in teaching intern doctors, training residents in obstetrics, and providing lectures at the University of Rwanda.
Academic & Professional Contributions
Dr. Mivumbi has conducted and published numerous studies in international journals and has supported interns in developing their theses for undergraduate programs. Additionally, he is an active member of the Rwanda Medical and Dental Council (RMDC), the Rwanda Society of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (RSOG), and serves as a Council member of the East, Central, and Southern College of Obstetrics and Gynecology (ECSCOG), where he chairs the Examination and Credential Committee.
Aimee Nyiramahirwe, one of Rwandan female obstetrician and gynecologists. Hold MMED from university of Rwanda, graduate of year 2021, bachelor’s degree of honor in general medicine in 2016 from University of Rwanda as well.
Working as consultant in obstetrics and gynecology at Rwanda Military teaching and Referral hospital. Involve in undergraduate studies in department of obstetrics and gynecology. She is Secretary general of Rwanda society of obstetrician and gynecologist. Enthusiastic to promote women health and rights.
Dr.Runyange Tharcisse serves on the Executive Board of the Rwanda Society of Obstetrics and Gynecology as Treasurer. .
Dr.Runyange Tharcisse, Obstetrician and Gynecology at La Croix Du Sud hospital. He graduated from University of Rwanda in 2016, where he got Mmed in Obstetrics and gynecology. He worked at Kacyiru hospital from 2016 to 2021.
From 2018 till now Dr Runyange has been active member of RSOG executive committee and has served as secretary general for four years and now is the treasurer of the society.
Dr Runyange is committed to the empowerment of women’s life in Rwanda as well as to the development of the RSOG.
Dr George Ruzigana, is a consultant Obstetrician Gynecologist with more than 15 years of experience in the medical field, He is currently affiliated with University Teaching Hospital of Kigali (CHUK) and has worked at both CHUB / CHUK as a consultant and clinical lecturer at the University of Rwanda (UR) College of Medicine and Health Sciences.
He is also 2nd Vice president RSOG and ECSACOG Rwanda country representative .His primary mission is improving clinical care through teaching, mentoring of residents, undergraduate and general practitioners in Obgyn through both the University,ECSACOG and RSOG .
He has been heavily involved in mentorship activities for last 7 years to improve maternal and child health in Rwanda rural district Hospitals through RSOG Outreach programs. He is passionate about managing Obstetrical emergencies ,reproductive endocrinology and gynecological surgery procedures..
Dr. Ruzindana Kenneth serves on the Executive Board of the Rwanda Society of Obstetrics and Gynecology as Advisor.
Dr. Ruzindana Kenneth is a distinguished consultant obstetrician and gynecologist at Kigali University Teaching Hospital, renowned for his dedication to patient care and advocacy. He is a fellow of gynecologic oncology at the International Gynecologic Cancer Society.
In addition to his clinical work, Dr. Ruzindana serves as a lecturer and instructor at the University of Rwanda, College of Medicine and Health Sciences, where he plays a pivotal role in medical education. His commitment to education ensures he plays a crucial role in shaping the future of medical professionals in Rwanda. He is a fellow of the East, Central, and Southern Africa College of Obstetrics and Gynecology.
Dr. Ruzindana also contributes to regional and international health initiatives as a member of the Regional Reproductive, Maternal, Newborn, Child, and Adolescent Health (RMNCAH) Technical Advisory Group for the World Health Organization (WHO) Africa region, contributing his expertise to improve health outcomes in women and reproductive health across the continent. Furthermore, Dr. Ruzindana is a member of the FIGO (International Federation of Gynecology and Obstetrics) Committee on Women's Cancer, collaborating with global experts to advance the understanding and management of women's cancers. Dr. Ruzindana is dedicated to advancing women's health, advocating for patient rights, and raising awareness about gynecologic cancers.
